From the outside, this is an unassuming two-storey addition to an existing property. However, the interior spaces of the addition betray the conventional external appearance.
The brief called for new kitchen and dining spaces at ground floor together with a study and library space at first floor. By resisting the temptation to infill the entire first floor and by taking the ceilings up with the roof, the new spaces occupy a single volume, which gives the house an unexpected drama.
The inclusion of a two-storey high glazed screen with sliding folding doors to the garden allows the spaces to connect with the landscape and affords fantastic views from the study area.
