This project is a replacement dwelling in North Wales involving the demolition of a timber-framed bungalow and the construction of a new two-storey house, guest annexe and double garage.
The principal accommodation of the house comprises two simple rectangular blocks orientated roughly east-west. By setting these two blocks apart and at an angle to each other, a dramatic hall is created, giving views from the entrance to the garden beyond. The arrangement also allows the northern block to be orientated to take advantage of the adjacent golf course.
Various contemporary methods of construction are employed in the design including the use of large format blocks with a thin-joint mortar system, external insulated render, one-coat spray-applied plaster and timber/aluminium composite windows. The house has a ground-source heat pump and underfloor heating and rainwater is harvested for toilet flushing and garden irrigation.
